James Lorimer ~ Professor of Public Law


Born in 1818 just outside Perth in the parish of Aberdalgie, James Lorimer is known for his work on international law. In 1862 he was appointed Professor of Public Law at Edinburgh University. James Lorimer died in 1890. He published several books the most significant of which are:

The Institutes of Law (1872) – an attack on positivism and utilitarianism

The Institutes of the Law of Nations (1883-4)
