George Scott Boyd ~ Biochemist


A biochemist born in Crieff in 1924. he studied at Heriot-Watt College in Edinburgh and then undertook a PhD in biochemistry at Edinburgh University Medical School. George Boyd then rose from Lecturer to Reader and then full Professor in 1970. His main research interests involved the study of Cholesterol Metabolism in Man and Other Species which had significant application in the study of heart disease. Amongst his elevations include membership of the Scottish Research Council and the Medical Research Council as well as being a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He died in 1983.
