Big Tanks on Tour in Perth 1941


On Monday 4 August 1941 a tank tour of the UK arrived to in Perth to show to the public three of the latest British tanks, a Valentine and two Matilda’s. The tanks were on show for three days at North and South St. John’s Place, outside St. John’s Kirk from 10.30 am to 12.30pm.

At 3.00pm on the Monday, Lord Provost Robert Nimmo gave a short address to the crowd that had gathered after which the tanks left the City Hall area for a tour of Perth’s principal streets.

The tanks, preceded by pipers and men of The Black Watch, went by the way of King Edward Street, High Street, Old High Street, Caledonian Road, York Place, County Place, King Street, Marshall Place, Tay Street, George Street, High Street and back to St. John’s Place.
