This distiller was born in Perth in 1870. The eldest son of a wine and spirit merchant he joined the family business at the age of 19. A partner by 1895 he is credited with turning the small conservative business into a large multinational selling blended whiskey to a large overseas market. part of this endeavour saw the firm purchase three Scottish distilleries between 1933 and 1936. In 1938 he was made a Freeman of the City of Perth. The main library in Perth, the AK Bell, shares his name. He died in 1942.
